Ok, been living in Key West for five years now, diving a couple times a week for much of it (not the past six months, however) and still can’t get enough of the coral. I could take pictures all day of the same set of coral rocks and never get tired of it.
I recently got an underwater strobe for my camera and can’t wait to dive deep and see how it lights up the dark recesses of coral formations down there.
This was on the reef in Key West, looks like a plastic or metal lawn chair that fell overboard. I guess someone needed some seating on their boat but this didn’t work out. Maybe a fisherman wanted to sit down while waiting for a fish to bite. Maybe someone had a boat party and it got rowdy.
Beanbags made for marine use are a great solution for boat seating. They cushion the ride, too, when it’s rough seas and the boat is skipping all around the waves. We have one for our boat and it saves my stomach when it’s rough out. If you go Key west snorkeling in wintertime, it’s more apt to be rough out since it’s almost always a little windy here during the colder months.
Well the coral in Key West is very much alive and well as you can see from this picture. There are several different species of coral communities on this one rock, sporting all kinds of bright colors.
Some of these are soft corals, and in the background to the left, you can see the tip of a beautiful albeit bleached out spike of hard coral with no algae on it.
This picture was taken on a Key West snorkeling trip going east of Key West.
