Brain Coral

This is some brain coral taken in November 2010 in Key West waters. It’s bleached out, but beautiful nevertheless. Brain Coral can be found all over Florida, Caribbean and The Bahamas. I think this particular brain coral is called symmetrical brain coral and if that’s what it is, it thrives between 20 to 40 feet.
Went out snorkeling in front of Geiger Key yesterday, and it was beautiful. The vis was only about 15 feet, but with the water only 11 feet deep, you could still see lots of life. Beautiful clear water today southwest of Key West. What a joy to be able to see so far. There had to be eighty feet of vis. Curiously, not many big fish around, just small reef fish like these. The one with the dot is a butterfly fish.
